When can you take the hazard perception test in QLD?
After at least 6 months on your learner licence. TMR emails you when you can take it, if it has your email address. There are no exemptions for learners: everyone has to pass it before the practical driving test.
Some people who already hold a P1 need it too. If your P1 was issued before 29 March 2021 and you didn't pass the test as a learner, you must pass it before moving to a P2 or open licence.
What the test is like
There are 25 clips, based on the situations TMR says novice drivers and riders find most challenging. The test takes about 15 to 30 minutes, and you need to stay online for at least that long. You have to finish it in one sitting, because you can't save your progress.
TMR recommends a laptop or desktop computer. Other devices work, but on a phone you need to be able to see the screen clearly.
HPT practice, attempts and the fee
TMR says there's a practice version before you begin, and you can practise as many times as you like. You pay $42.70 before you get access, and access lasts up to 12 months. You can attempt the test as many times as you like, with no lock-out period. TMR doesn't publish the pass mark.
When you pass, TMR emails you a confirmation and tells you how to move to the next licence stage.
The motorcycle hazard perception test
Motorcycle learners take their own version, and it costs the same $42.70. You need to pass it before your motorcycle practical riding test.
Without internet at home
The Indigenous Driver Licensing Unit runs an offline version of the car test when it visits communities. There's no offline version of the motorcycle test.
