Utah DMV appointments for permits, tests and licenses

A Utah DMV appointment for a permit or license is booked with the Driver License Division, not the DMV. You fill in the online application for the service you need, then pick a time at an office. Walk-ins are allowed, but the division serves people with appointments first, so a walk-in can mean a long wait.

How do you book a Utah DMV appointment?

Book under the right service. The handbook warns that if you book, say, a driving test under renewal, the office may not be able to help you and you'll have to rebook.

  1. Go to the Driver License Division site and choose your service, such as learner permit, original license, renewal or driving skills test.
  2. Read the requirements, then fill in the online application.
  3. Pick an office and a time. You'll get a confirmation number.
  4. Bring the confirmation number and your documents to the office.
