Can you do your Utah DMV driver's license renewal online?
Yes, if you get the PIN letter. Utah's good driver program sends it to drivers with a valid license and no more than six reportable violations in eight years. Use that PIN to renew your Utah driver's license online on the state's renewal page. If you lost the letter, call 801-965-4437.
Who must renew in person
You must go in person if:
- You renewed online last time.
- You have citations, a suspension or a revocation.
- Your license expired more than a year ago. You'll also take the 25-question open-book written test.
- You have a medical condition on record, or another state has a hold on your license.
- You have a limited-term license. You'll need to show your lawful presence documents again.
At your renewal appointment
At the appointment you take an eye test and a new photo. If you've moved, bring two proofs of address, unless you updated your address online first. You'll leave with a temporary license, and the card comes in about 4 to 6 weeks.
Renewal fees
| License | In person | Online |

| Regular, 65 and older | $27 | $22 |
| Limited-term adult | $32 | In person only |
| Driving privilege card | $23 | In person only |
Fees are as of October 2026 and aren't refunded.
Renewing before 21
If you renew before your 21st birthday, your license still shows you as a minor. That label changes to adult once you renew on or after your 21st birthday.
