What’s on the College Mathematics CLEP?
| Area | Share |
|---|---|
| Algebra and functions | 20% |
| Financial mathematics | 20% |
| Data analysis and statistics | 15% |
| Logic and sets | 15% |
| Counting and probability | 10% |

| Numbers | 10% |
Half the questions are routine and half check your understanding. The calculator is a TI-30XS MultiView, which doesn’t graph.
Which math CLEP exam should you take?
| Exam | Matches | Calculator |
|---|---|---|
| College Mathematics | A college math course for non-math majors | Scientific, whole exam |
| College Algebra | A one-semester algebra course | Scientific, whole exam |
| Precalculus | What you need before first-semester calculus | Graphing, first part only |
| Calculus | A one-semester calculus course | Graphing, second section only |
Your college’s CLEP policy says which course each exam replaces. That’s the deciding factor, not which exam looks easier.
Is there a CLEP statistics exam?
No. Statistics isn’t one of the 34 CLEP subjects. The closest is College Mathematics, where data analysis and statistics make up about 15% of the questions. Don’t count on it standing in for a statistics course unless your college’s CLEP policy says it does.
