Four kinds of CLEP test centers
| Type | Who it tests |
|---|---|
| Public | Anyone who registers and pays the center’s fee, including service members |
| Limited | Only students admitted to or enrolled at that college |
| DANTES-funded | College centers that waive their fee for eligible service members and civilians whose exam DANTES pays for |
| On base | Eligible service members and civilians allowed onto the military installation |
How to find a CLEP test center near you
- Search the CLEP Test Center Search by college name or by location.
- Contact the center: its website and phone number are in the results. Centers run on their own, so you book with them, not with College Board.
- Ask about its administration fee. College Board says centers typically charge one, and the amount is up to them.
- Print your registration ticket from My CLEP, add the center’s details and your appointment, and bring it on the day.
Where should you take the CLEP exam: a center or home?
| Test center | At home | |
|---|---|---|
| Extra fee | Set by the center | $30 |
| Exams | Any of the 34 | All 34 |
| How to book | Contact the center | In Proctortrack |
| Equipment | The center’s | Your own Windows PC and a smartphone |
| Who can | Anyone a public center accepts | 13 and older (18 in Illinois), living in the US or DANTES-funded |
Outside the US with no center nearby? College Board suggests taking CLEP once you arrive at the US college where you’ll study, after checking its CLEP policy.
