Connecticut Praxis requirements

By Connecticut law, everyone formally admitted to a state-approved teacher preparation program takes Praxis Core in Reading, Writing and Math, or an approved SAT, ACT or GRE instead, and the results are used as a diagnostic tool. Connecticut Praxis Subject Assessments are required for certificates and endorsements in the areas where the state names them.

Which Connecticut Praxis tests apply to you?

  • Core: all three tests, or an approved SAT, ACT or GRE. The older codes 5712, 5722 and 5732 are still accepted.
  • Subject Assessments: for a certificate, a lapsed certificate you’re renewing, or an extra endorsement in an area that requires them.

Connecticut’s passing scores are in CSDE’s Guide to Assessments and ETS’s score tool.

Free retakes in Connecticut

Under ETS’s 2025-2026 Connecticut retake policy, if you miss a Subject Assessment’s passing score by no more than one standard error of measurement, you can get a voucher covering the test fee or a Praxis Bridge course. You’re limited to two vouchers per test over your whole testing history.

Connecticut test takers can also use ETS’s national Free After 3 program, and ETS lists Praxis Bridge titles for the state, starting with 5001 from November 1, 2024.
