Grades 4-8 needs three modules, Pedagogy (5153, 162), English Language Arts and Social Studies (5154, 152) and Mathematics and Science (5155, 164), plus at least one subject concentration: English Language Arts (5156, 156), Social Studies (5157, 150), Mathematics (5158, 173) or Science (5159, 156). The list doesn’t include a PLT.
GPA-based qualifying scores
Each Pennsylvania test has six scores: the passing score and five qualifying scores for GPA bands. With a lower GPA you need more; with a higher GPA you need less. For Biology (5236), it’s 161 with a GPA of 2.80-2.99, 154 to pass, then 153, 151, 150 and 148 for GPAs from 3.01 up to 4.0.
The department says the GPA allowance doesn’t change your pass or fail result, but lets it accept a GPA qualifying score when it issues the certificate.
Do you need Praxis Core in Pennsylvania?
Not for certification. The department says basic skills testing is no longer a certification requirement, after a 2024 law permanently ended it. Core or PAPA scores are now an alternative way into a preparation program if you don’t meet its GPA: the department’s web page says a 2.8 GPA, while its workbook says 3.0, so ask your program.
The workbook lists Core qualifying scores of 156 in Reading (5713), 162 in Writing (5723) and 142 in Math (5733).
Pearson tests and score reporting
PreK-4 and Special Education PK-8 and 7-12 use Pearson’s PECT modules, not Praxis.
If you test in Pennsylvania with a Pennsylvania profile address, your scores go to the department automatically. Otherwise choose code 8033 when you register. ETS notes that you must meet the qualifying score in effect when your application is received, and the department accepts a previous test version up to six months after a new one takes effect.
